Do you dream of designing and building your own home in Perth? With RedInk Homes on your side, that dream could easily become a reality. Here are the five major steps we recommend our clients go through before the shovel hits the dirt:
1. Begin by Imagining Your Dream Home.
One of the truly wonderful aspects of designing and building your own home is that you really can do whatever you want with the place. There’s no need to settle for a house you love in a location you’re not crazy about, nor for the perfect location with a less than perfect house. There’s no reason you can’t end up with the best of both worlds when you’re designing and building your own home.
But of course, none of this happens without plenty of hard work and dedication on your behalf. It all begins with a dream – or a vision. Don’t get bogged down with how many bedrooms you need or how much floor space you require. Instead, try to think in big-picture terms. How would you use the home of your dreams? What would you love about it?
2. Take to the Streets for Inspiration.
Once you have a general vision of the type of house you’d like to live in, it’s time to take to the streets. If you already know Perth, one of the best things to do is visit a few of your favourite neighbourhoods or suburbs.
Here are a few of the most liveable suburbs in Perth, according to Homely:
- Bibra Lake
But the reality is that you don’t have to consult a ‘best of’ list to determine what it is that you like. Instead, spend some time driving around the metropolitan area and allow yourself to develop a sense of what it is that you’re really looking for. And if you need any guidance, consult our house and land locations page for inspiration.
3. Start Putting Pen to Paper.
At this stage in the process, it’s time to start getting organised. Ideally, you will have determined what your dream home looks and feels like. From here, it’s time to begin organising your ideas into a more coherent vision.
Take note of the non-negotiable aspects of your dream house. Perhaps you have a general (or even very specific) idea of the location. But even if not, you should know how many bedrooms, bathrooms and other features your house should have. Make a list of these requirements.
But you can also allow your imagination to run wild at this point. There may be a few less tangible features that you aren’t sure how to translate into a bricks-and-mortar property. Perhaps you would like to entertain guests regularly, or maybe you need a home office space for professional reason. Write it all down and be prepared to present this to your builder.
At RedInk, we specialise in helping our clients turn their housing dreams into reality. We’ll work with you through every stage of the planning process to ensure that the house you move into exceeds our expectations.
4. Select a Location for Your Home.
We’ve already advised you to spend some time scouting out Perth suburbs and neighbourhoods for inspiration. Now that you have a solid idea of what you expect from your house, it’s time to begin getting serious about finding a physical location for it.
There are several factors to consider here. Some people prefer a more remote – almost isolated – location. Others prefer to be as close as possible to their place of employment. The good news is that Perth can deliver on all fronts. Our team will work with you at this stage in order to help find and secure the perfect parcel of land.
And you don’t have to limit your search to vacant lots. At RedInk, we offer a specialised demolish and build service, as well. If you’re in love with a particular plot of land, but not terribly enthusiastic about the house standing on it, we have the skills and experience needed to knock down that home and build yours in its place.
5. Entrust the Planning to Competent Hands.
It’s important that you get the right advice in regards to planning your new home. This is where the RedInk team will take the reins. At this stage, you have a vision for your home, you’ve noted your specific requirements and you know where you want it to be located. We’ll work closely with you to translate that information into living colour.
We’ll collaborate with you to create the plans, and then we’ll hand them to you so that you can make revisions in red ink. And as home builders, we can also assist with securing finance, seeking council approval and managing your move.
We’re the only people you’ll need to deal with if you’re hoping to build your dream home in Perth. Contact us today to set the process in motion.
